Constant torture, and chain on leg drove the female elephant Lakhi to the brink of death, when upon Court’s intervention she got rescued, and rehabilitated at an SOS center. The elephant’s owners mercilessly blinded and whipped her, causing swelling and injuries on various parts including her back, head, ears and chest. Malnutrition had dwindled her health while the unending chaining of her leg caused her big bruises. Her main activities included playing jokes and begging in streets and temples under the sun. Unable to bear this torture, people rescued this 60-year old elephant through Court’s verdict, and transported her to Elephant Conservation and Care Center, Mathura in 2015, facilitating nutritious food, and good treatment.
